Nonostante il suo Sangiovese pedigree, il Chianti Classico DOCG è una denominazione sottovalutata rispetto ai suoi famosi vicini toscani Brunello di Montalcino e Vino Nobile di Montepulciano . Eppure i suoi migliori vini meritano appieno di essere al fianco delle loro prestigiose controparti.
L'introduzione nel 2014 del nuovo Gran Selezione la classificazione qualitativa, superiore al Chianti Classico Riserva, è stata in parte un tentativo di ristabilire l'equilibrio. Fino a quel momento le Riservas erano ai vertici della scala qualitativa ed erano le più adatte alla stagionatura a lungo termine.
